Time for a change...

Today's lifestyle has led to an obestiy explosion. Children and adults alike, in countries all over the world, are suffering from being overweight or, in its more extreme form, obese. Some even fall into the category referred to morbidly obese. But what does all this mean? What does it mean to you, your family, friends and neighbours? What can YOU do about it? What have you tried to do in the past? How can you succeed in making a difference? My aim is to try to give you as much information as possible to help you make better choices for you and your loved ones so that these health issues can be a thing of the past. Am I an expert in the field of weight loss - NO! I just have an interest in helping people make better lifestyle choices with as much information as possible. Ultimately the choice is YOURS!

My Story

For much of my life I have been overweight. As a young woman I began to gain significant weight, nothing too serious but it was certainly the start of my roller coaster ride with yoyo diets and the like. I often blamed my weight gain on my job - I began a nursing career and short meal breaks meant that I had to race to the cafeteria, choose my meal and then bolt it down as I was due back at the wards. This rapid eating was, I believe, the beginning! From there it just got worse. Junk food, soft drinks and the like were always there to tempt me and I had little to no "NO" power. Peer pressure - sure! That also played a large part as my friends and I partied and enjoyed life, generally to excess.

Eventually the time came when a serious relationship turned to marriage and a family. At around 75kg, I was overweight but not too bad - or so I thought. Then came the children - and the weight. Still not major but gradually gaining all the time. No time for exercise either but then I was getting plenty wasn't I? Late nights, early mornings, broken sleep etc all gave me ample opportunity to snack. Relationship breakdown - more incentive to snack and more weight gain. Then a new relationship began but the lifestyle choices I had made were already set and very evident on my body! A bit of dieting later and things were not so bad - but then I decided I needed a career change - I went to uni to obtain my education degree. Again, lots of time sitting and studying (and snacking) to help me get through it. Although I gained employment straight after uni, I still snacked and ate the wrong foods and the weight gradually ballooned - I was obese! Want to know more? What did I decide to do? HOW DID I SUCCEED? What helped me on the ROAD TO SUCCESSFUL WEIGHT LOSS?

 

Diets Atkins, California, CSIRO, Low GI Diet, Jenny Craig, Weight Watchers, South Beach Diet, Beverley Hills, Pritikin...... I could go on and on, but until you have all the information that you need, will you succeed?

 

Water - Life's Miracle The human body is made up of about 70% water....without water for about 3 days, we may die. At best, we may suffer serious damage to vital organs like the brain, kidneys etc. How much water? But what about all the chemicals in our drinking water??

 

Beating the Eating Temptation: Wherever we go, we encounter continual signals to eat. Food is readily available from a large range of sources, from fast food outlets to those fast food snacks available in supermarkets, petrol stations and the like. We are constantly bombarded with slick advertising for food related products and these are often for foods which are high in fat and are generally a poor substitute for correct nutrition. How can we avoid such temptations when they are blatantly facing us at every turn?

 

  Nutrition Arguably one of the MOST important parts of health and wellbeing is correct and adequate nutrition. Sure you may eat plenty but is it what your body needs? How can you get all of these things in balance because without balance, you will not achieve total wellness...

Exercise How much time do you need to invest in exercise to get fit, lose weight and stay fit? What activities can you do to burn off fat? DO you need to look like a weight lifter or body builder to be truly FIT? Did you know that the more exercise you do, the more you want to do and the more effective you become in exercising your body? Getting started is the hardest part. Crank up your fat buring engines and lets go.....

 

Sleep Quality sleep is vital if you are going to succeed with achieving significant changes in your health and well-being. How much sleep do you need? What is "good" sleep? What can you do to help you achieve a deep and restful sleep pattern?

Relaxation Have you ever noticed that those people that seem to be DRIVEN as if by a motor out of control never seem to have a weight issue. Often they eat anything they desire and never seem to gain a kilogram of excess weight. They never seem to relax so is it really necessary? Today's lifestyle is very different from that which my grandparents enjoyed - relaxing in the rocking chair on the verandah after a hard day's work....
